xiv, [15]-637, [1] pp. 2 figs., index, additional & corrections. Robert Grant, Scottish astronomer, studied at King'sCollege. Grant became director of the University of Glasgow Observatory. He was awarded the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society, 1856, and in 1865 elected a Fellow of the Royal Society. First Edition as such - it previously appeared in parts in the Society of Useful Knowledge in 1848-9. The book is complete and internally tight, clean and unmarked apart from some light pencil notes on the rear endpaper. The full calf binding with bright gilt university provenance however is worn at the edges and corners and repairs to the spine appear as if the backstrip has been re affixed. The marbled endpapers are marred by cracked and repaired hinges. An excellent reading of rebinding copy of the first edition. See scans. N° de ref. del artículo 011286
