293 pages. A small octavo in what appears to be the original sheep. The first American edition of 1788, from the famous and important American printers, Thomas and John Fleet of Boston. The book is a small octavo measuring 7" x 4.25" in what appears to be the original leather binding. Leather is scuffed and rubbed, corners worn, spine gilt mostly gone, black spine label still there but no gilt left. Interior front endpaper has owner name (appears to be "R. Hildreth"). Free end paper gone, stitching is starting to give way, title page quite browned, an early humorist has added inked letters to Livy's name, rendering it "Tete Lived Pat, a. Vining." First 20 pages have a large chip at the bottom edge near the gutter, last page is glued to the endpaper with loss of half the page/text. Paper is browned and foxed throughout, with some edge chips, but is otherwise clean and unmarked. The book is an early American imprint from the famous Boston Fleet publishing firm, founded in Boston in 1731. In 1758, two of Thomas Fleet's sons, Thomas, Jr. (1732-1797) and John (1734-1806) , continued the family printing business which included The Boston Evening-Post. They remained in Boston through the siege of 1775-1776. The Fleet brothers' account of the Boston Tea Party in the Post was an important first hand detailing of the events of that momentous day in American history. Livy's famous Roman history, the Urbe Condita (literally, from the founding) , a history of Rome from its very beginnings; 8vo 8" - 9" tall. N° de ref. del artículo 10806
