Descripción del artículo del vendedor

1953. First edition. 278pp. This is a study of three controversial murder cases, where the accused was hanged. Walter Graham Greenwood was accused of the murder of Olive Balchin in 1946 and hanged in 1947, but another man later confessed and many believe that Rowland had been falsely convicted and was the victim of a miscarriage of justice. Derek Bentley was hanged in 1953 for the murder of a policeman, although the case is also considered a case of miscarriage of justice and was pivotal in the successful campaign to abolish capital punishment in the United Kingdom. Timothy John Evans was a Welsh lorry driver who was wrongfully accused of murdering his wife Beryl and infant daughter Geraldine at their residence in Notting Hill, London. In January 1950 he was executed by hanging and later pardoned after John Christie, who was the chief prosecution witness in the case against him, was found to be a serial killer who had murdered several other women in the same house. The book is bound in the original red boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with bumping to the top corners and spine ends. The contents are tight and clean with foxing on the fore edge of the text block. There is no inscription. The clipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with some soiling and the spine is browned. The corners are rubbed and nicked and the spine ends are bumped and chipped with small pieces missing. There is a tear of about 1/4" on the top rear spine corner.
