CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The 7th was the first Regiment raised for the Civil War. Originally a 3-month regiment, it was reorganized and filled with 3-year recruits; notably it was also later armed with Henry repeating rifles. With the reorganization, the regiment saw service at the Battle of Fort Donelson, the Battle of Shiloh, the Battle of Allatoona, the March to the Sea and the Carolinas Campaign. REFERENCES: DORN Ill #83; NEVINS 1, pg 51: "A full, factual diary-like account of the Western theater, with emphasis on Shiloh, Chickamauga, and Sherman's 1864-1865 campaigns." COULTER #5: "Daniel Lieb Ambrose gives a day-by-day account of the marches and fighting of the regiment, during which he rose to the rank of first lieutenant. Though not indicating he kept a diary, the narrative has that form.
