Published in Madeley Shropshire in 1880 this is the scarce First Edition of this History of the town and of close by Ironbridge, Coalport and Coalbrookdale, the heart of the Industrial Revolution, with accounts of the iron industries and Ironmasters, the China Manufacturers, the local geology, and more. Bound in red cloth titled in gilt, internally illustrated with woodcuts, this example does not contain any photographs, which were available in a more expensive edition of the book, 7 inches tall, 387 pages, the covers have general edge rubbing wear, some edge and corner bumps, some lightened spotting to the cloth and mild marking, internally old ownership inscription to front endpaper, foxing to title page, a few relevant annotations in some page margins (see pictures) light corner bumping, else contents in nice general condition.
