Two volume set The Greville Memoirs, (Third Part) half leather binding, gilt titles on twin labels, raised gilt bands, highly decorative gilt decoration to the compartments, marbled page edges, paste downs and end papers. Charles Cavendish Fulke Greville (1794-1865) was one of England s greatest diarists. These Journals were first published as instructed by him ten years after his death. They first appeared in eight volumes between 1874 and 1887 and have become an important historical source for this period. Vol. I xiii, [i], 315pp. Vol. II ix, [i], 326pp including the index. Approximately 8 ½ inches tall. Condition Report Externally Spine good condition gilt titles on twin brown and olive labels, five raised gilt bands, highly decorative gilt decoration to the compartments, slight loss to the foot of Vol. II. Joints good condition gently rubbed and worn, small loss at the bottom of the front joint of Vol. II. Corners good condition gently bumped and worn. Boards good condition half leather boards with marbled paper, there is a small scuff to the leather on the rear of Vol. II down the joint edge. Page edges good condition top edges darkened, all marbled. See above and photos. Internally Hinges good condition intact. Paste downs good condition marbled. End papers good condition marbled, subsequent end papers tanned and foxed in both volumes. Title good condition lightly tanned and foxed. Pages good condition lightly tanned throughout. See photos.
