Original colour printed wraps 21x30cm. Printed by Muscat Printing Press, 57pp with colour photo frontis portrait of Sultan Qaboos, and colour drawings throughout. Very good. Undated, but probably issued during 1991-94, when Carolyn Glascodine was the Ministry's in-house English Editor and Writer (Freelance Register). No edition is stated, but presumably the first. Worldcat only records the 2nd and 3rd editions c2000, both only at UCLA (Worldcat also records an equivalent work for the United Arab Emirates c2000 at UCLA). Prepared by the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Environment in accordance with the directives of Sultan Qaboos to conserve and protect Oman's environment, this was distributed by the Ministry of Education to Oman's schoolchildren. It includes background information and advice on saving water and keeping it clean, saving energy, minimising waste, looking after the land, and protecting wildlife. Among the actions are things kids are encouraged to ask their parents to do, such as conserving petrol by keeping speed down, and not to hunt or disturb wild species. The section on Oman's natural history talks for example about the reintroduction and protection of the Arabian Oryx to the Jiddat al Harasis, which had been hunted to extinction, a reserve in Wadi Sarin for the endangered Tahr, and the importance of Ras al Hadd for sea turtles. It encourages children to express their views on the environment by starting clubs at school, writing to the Ministry, and paying attention to key events in the calendar such as Earth Day. It also encourages further learning with contact details and opening times for the Natural History Museum, Marine Science and Fisheries Centre, the Turtle Beaches, the Oil Exhibition Centre, and Public Library.
