12mo. Pp.198. Translated by Barbara Wright. Yellow cloth, titles stamped in red on the spine. Leaf edges mildly age toned and transfer to endpapers, mild spine sag and stains to lower edge. In the photo illustrated dust jacket printed in red and black with price 18/- intact on the front flap. Jacket spine and edges a trifle darkened, light edge-wear. A humorous experiment in fiction, the story of a confrontation in a Paris bus told in 99 different ways. And a masterful transformation into English: Queneau had encouraged Barbara Wright to take on this "impossible" translation full of French puns, idioms and greater challenges. She also provides an insightful, witty preface. With chapter initial drawings and jacket design by "S. T." (publisher Stefan Themerson).
