First edition thus. Salesman's Sample Book for an Illustrated Collection of English Ruling Cases [Salesman's Sample Book]. Campbell, Robert. Browne, Irving. Jones, Leonard A. English Ruling Cases with American Notes: Sure Basis for Sound Argument. Boston: The Boston Book Co., [1903]. A salesman's sample book. Octavo (10-1/2" x 7-1/4"; 26.7 x 18.4cm). 32 pp. With 15 plates. Publisher's original textured black cloth, front board stamped in black with a framed border enclosing six inset portrait images, rear board with a single portrait image within a black-stamped frame, spine titled in black. Internally, the sample includes the main title page, a selective curation of text leaves, fifteen high-quality plates, and localized marketing testimonials. Crucially, the prospectus highlights the "American Notes" provided by Irving Browne and Leonard A. Jones; two of the era's premier legal treatise writers, reassuring skeptical American attorneys that these English precedents remained directly applicable to contemporary U.S. courtroom arguments. The Boston Book Company further maximized the utility of the volume by using the e.…
