Librería: My Father's Books, Bennington, VT, Estados Unidos de America
Hardcover. Condición: Good. 1st Edition. Printed in Great Britain. Date on the title page: MCMXXXIII. Second Impression, three months after the first. Note, 258 pages. The original black cloth is somewhat spotted, with a touch of rubbing at the corner tips; slightly more on the spine ends with three small points of loss. The yellow lettering is still bold on the spine. [Please see my five images of the actual book.] The interior has remained bright, though there is respectful penciling by my philosopher-father on a dozen pages. The top-edge of the text-block is toned and there is some discoloration to the endpapers. Binding remains strong. "It is our lot to live historically in a period of transition. The old world, if I may call it so, or 'modern times'---have come to their end and are in decomposition. A new and unknown world is coming to birth. And it is worth noting that this end of one world and beginning of another appears simultaneously to some as a 'revolution' and to others as a 'reaction'. . . ."---page 69. As with every book from my father's collection, tipped-in at the front is the small, attractive, acid-free bookplate pictured on my homepage. All books are wrapped with special care and are shipped promptly with tracking; international sales sent via global priority, also with tracking. Nº de ref. del artículo: 002381

Original black cloth Hardback. Condición: Very Good. Reprint. 1935. 258pp. Yellow titles to spine. This book is the philosophical fruit of Nikolai Berdyaev's first-hand experience of, and reflections on, the crisis of European civilization in the aftermath of the Great War and the Russian Revolution. Berdyaev tells us that the modern age, with its failed Humanism, is being replaced by a new epoch: "the new middle ages," an epoch of darkness, an epoch of the universal night of history. Berdyaev asserts that this night is a good thing: in this darkness, which is a return to the mysterious life of the spirit, the destruction inflicted by the previous period of "light" will be healed: "Night is not less wonderful than day; it is equally the work of God; it is lit by the splendor of the stars and it reveals to us things that the day does not know. Night is closer than day to the mystery of all beginning". Light foxing to edges and occasional light foxing to the text. Excellent condition with no inscriptions.
