Descripción del artículo del vendedor

1898 London, 1st edn, 2nd issue, xii, 125pp, frontis with tissue guard, photos, 3 unnumbered pages at end. The only fishing book published by Rowland Ward Ltd and written by Ward himself. The book describes and extended fishing trip to Florida that Rowland Ward went on in 1897. He and "Mrs. Ward" left in March from London on the SS Majestic to New York and traveled from there south to seek tarpon which they fished for around Ft. Myers among other places. His biggest tarpon was 128lbs, a monster to be sure, by still not near as big as the record which was obtained by a Mrs. Stagg and at that time was claimed to be 205lbs. Ward was able to photograph the landing of a 600lbs saw fish that a fellow anger hooked. At the end of the trip he did some "small fishing" during which he caught moon fish, black bass, sheep head and other fish. Taking the train back to Washington DC he visited the Smithsonian. There is also a list of the biggest tarpon caught in the 1887 season as well as an extract of the Florida Game Laws and a copy of the report he wrote for the Field once he was back in England. For what ever reason this is an very rare and hard to find publication. A very good copy, book plate by W. Rutherford Peterson, former governor of Vermont. Period book dealers narrow slip of paper describing the book pasted in. Period binding but not in red cloth, as usual, likely a later state or a very early rebinding.…

World Wide Hunting Books’ stock is mainly antiquarian first editions that are in above-average condition; we have the collector in mind when we buy our books. We have books on tiger, bear, wild sheep, elk, ibex, buffalo, rhino, elephant, and lion hunting. We also have early exploration and hunting accounts from North America, Asia, and Africa. If it is a book on big-game hunting and if it is out of print, it is likely we have handled the book in our thirty-five-plus years of being in this field. We maintain a detailed, proprietary database with seven thousand-plus entries with bibliographical notes that helps us keep track of the thousands of hunting books ever printed. We work with small collectors as well as huge university libraries. We are proud to have helped some of our customers create collections that contain more than one thousand books, but we are equally happy to provide you with that one special book you have always longed for or want to present as a gift. …
