True first British printing of this trade edition (preceded by a signed limited edition), 1919. No jacket as issued (?). 126 pages plus two pages of adverts to rear. Frontispiece of the author. Green boards with original paper label (bit worn/browned/little loss ) to spine are very good with a little pushing/bumping to corners, patchy fading, few small marks, little browning/darkening to spine, the odd small bump/rub to edges and a little wear (pushing/rubbing/bumping) to head/tail of spine. Pages are generally clean and the binding is tight. Rough cut page edges and bottoms. Top of pages dyed grey. Previous owner's bookplate inside front board. Pages bit tanned. Odd small mark/spots of foxing to page edges and bottoms. Odd small tear/patch of loss to page edges which were uncut and badly opened. Occasional small mark/spot of foxing to pages. No other faults. The covers are generally clean, but with a light water stain to the top edge of the front cover, affecting the top edge of some pages very slightly. Front and back covers partially faded. Binding straight with no reading lean. No creases to the spine. Internally also very good with no inscriptions. No creases or tears. The paper stock is lightly tanned. ***234mm x 154mm. 152 pages including a six-page section of notes at the back of the book. ***'Basil Cheesman Bunting (1 March 1900 - 17 April 1985) was a British modernist poet whose reputation was established with the publication of "Briggflatts" in 1966, generally regarded as one of the major achievements of the modernist tradition in English. He had a lifelong interest in music that led him to emphasise the sonic qualities of poetry, particularly the importance of reading poetry aloud, and he was an accomplished reader of his own work.' The book first appeared in the UK in 1955, but apparently was rushed into print and contained a number of errors. The 1959 edition followed with the errors corrected. This is the first Faber paperback edition published in 1984. ***Near fine in the familiar 1980s Pentagram-designed typographical covers with a portrait of the author on the front cover. The covers are clean, with just some light marks and rubbing at the edges, and with a light crease to the bottom corner of the back cover. No significant creases and no tears. No bumps - corners sharp. No fading even to the spine. There is an original Dillons Bookshops label on the back cover. Contents also nice and clean, with no inscriptions. Paper stock just slightly tanned with age.
