Fine unread condition light gray boards, violet cloth spine with silver spine lettering contained in a fine condition non price-clipped black-and-white photographic dust jacket. Includes Prelude; Family Tree; Epilogue; Acknowledgments and Index. Illustrated with a section of black-and-white photographic plates. "A Rockefeller heir describes in compelling detail her sheltered childhood, her struggle to find her own identity, and her discovery of the truth which finally sets her free. The great granddaughter of William Rockefeller (John D.'s brother and partner), Belle Elmer grew up in a family whose immense power became its own insidious bondage. To the softspoken and commanding men and women who dwelt in the vast Rockefeller mansions and dominated the financial world and society pages, love and affection were alien and suspect emotions, the closest they could come was a stifling control - that guaranteed that the next generation would be similarly bound. Belle's story, however, is about a woman surprisingly untouched by power and riches; although, her capacity to describe them and evoke their majesty is admirable and deeply moving. Cinderella Rockefeller is the most intimate look we have had at being brought up a Rockefeller and it shows us an unnerving thread of tragedy which weaves itself constantly, from generation to generation, among the threads of gold. Belle's definition of herself eludes her within the formula of just "being a Rockefeller." She experiences the despair and disconnection of a soul bereft of any spiritual values. Today, Belle Elmer is a busy housewife, grandmother, and the Director of Social Services for a Christian community on Cape Cod. How she got there, and what she learned on the way make a fascinating and inspiriting story. Cinderella Rockefeller is embellished with 20 pages of rarely viewed and fascinating pictures of the Rockefellers, their relatives, and some of the grand homes in which they lived." - from the inner front and rear jacket flaps.…

Descripción de la tienda
Vero Beach Books is an antiquarian bookseller with a constantly updated inventory of rare out-of-print books, signed books, children's books, plus a large inventory of ephemeral items such as major U.S. city newspapers going back 100 years and more, golden and silver age fine condition comic books (soon to be added), and many other ephemeral items as well as much more recent popular volumes. We have been in business for 25 years, originally known as Emerson Books (named after one of our owner's favorite authors, to wit, Ralph Waldo Emerson) located back then in Westport, Connecticut. That said, we are here to serve you, to offer you fine quality items that are conservatively described so that you will always be pleasantly surprised and delighted with your purchase. Twenty-five years in the bookselling business has borne out our stellar service oriented reputation; the only difference is that now we are located in the almost always sunny and warm climate of Vero Beach, Florida. Again, we are here to serve you and, as was the case when we were previously known on ABEBooks.com as Emerson Books, we will continue to offer our very popular 100% free search service for those hard to find books rare and out of print books. Oftentimes we are also able to obtain these rare finds at very good discounts to our customers' so it is always worth contacting us in such cases!
