Contemporary red morocco gilt for Lippincott's, top edge gilt, others untrimmed, marbled endpapers,8vo, 24 cm, 86 pp, photogravure frontispiece showing the Library. A catalogue of highlights from the collection of the Philadelphia railway magnate and financier George Clifford Thomas (1839-1909), an early customer of Rosenbach. From the Book Collector (Spring 2005): "Thomas s collection was sold by Samuel T. Freeman & Co. in a sale conducted 18 and 19 November 1924, following the death of his wife, Ada E. Moorhead Thomas. The collection was notable for autograph letters and documents, especially of officers of the American Revolution, of signers of the Declaration of Independence, and of delegates to the first Constitutional Conference. Thomas s rare books were mainly fine copies of Dickens, Thackeray and the illustration of Cruikshank, though there were numerous illuminated manuscripts and early printed Bibles and prayer books (including the missal said to have been carried by Louis XVI to his execution)." From the introductory note by "A.H.R." : "This Catalogue has been compiled simply for the purpose of affording an idea of the character and scope of the Books, Manuscripts and Autograph Letters contained in the Library of Mr. George C. Thomas. It may be of interest, by way of preface, to state a few facts concerning the Library itself. There are about twenty eight hundred volumes of all kinds, the majority bound in full leather. The Dickens Collection, comprising every Dickens item in its original condition, each contained in a separate morocco case, is probably the most complete as a collection, but the collection of Cruikshankiana is also very complete, and there are the usual full sets of the best editions of standard authors. ."
