1st edition, 1947, now rare. Novel set in Japan during the Second World War and written whilst Wynd was a prisoner of the Japanese. A novel written in 4 parts, telling the story of a Japanese girl, 'Omi' caught between 2 very different cultural worlds and her struggle/attempt to reconcile them. 374 pages printed and bound on cream, cloth boards with rough-cut page ends (cream paper). In overall 'Good' condition. Age-related marks and slight wear to boards. The title 'block' on the spine, in black with candle illustration and gold, gilt letters is worn but the title is still visible. Small bookseller's sticker in blue to bottom of rear end papers ('Ireland & Allan Ltd., Books and Stationery, Vancouver, B.C.) Contents are clean and tidy and the binding is firm. No dust-jacket. 8vo. [Book-seller's comment - why isn't Wynd greater appreciated and known as a writer, particularly as a novelist with first-hand knowledge of Japan? Along with his other 'Japanese' novel, 'The Ginger Tree', he must surely be one of the acknowledged experts on Western-Japanese culture. He also wrote crime novels under the pseudonym Gavin Black, many of which are set in Japan or China. Please search our listings under 'Black' to find 2 which we have for sale].
