First impression of the true first edition, with the complete number-string sequence 1 3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4 2 on the printer's page. This is the standard trade edition. ***A near fine copy in dark-grey paper-covered boards, with gilt titles to the spine and decorated with gilt stardust decorations to the boards. The boards are clean and unmarked, and there are no bumps or creases - just slight creasing to the top and tail of the spine. Corners sharp. No reading lean to the binding and the page block is tight to the spine. Page block edges clean without foxing. Internally also near fine with no inscriptions. No creases or tears. Paper stock clean. ***In a near fine colour illustrated dustwrapper, which has not been price-clipped, retaining the original publisher's printed price of £25.00. The dustwrapper has no significant faults - bright and clean with no fading. Just some light creasing to the lower edge of the front inner flap. ***622 pages plus a single page of acknowledgements at the back of the book. 240mm x 160mm. ***'Tell me what's in the red building / in the desert of Karamakan. / The building the roses come from. / ---an opening into another world--- / The world where the roses come from? / ---they could come from nowhere else--- (Quote taken from the front board). ***'Lyra Silvertongue is far from her Oxford home, searchinf for her daemon, Pantalaimon, and the imagination he fears she has lost. Acerca del autor
Philip Pullman is one of the most highly respected children's authors writing today. Winner of many prestigious awards, including the Carnegie of Carnegies and the Whitbread Award, Pullman’s epic fantasy trilogy His Dark Materials has been acclaimed as a modern classic. It has sold 17.5 million copies worldwide and been translated into 40 languages. In 2005 he was awarded the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. He lives in Oxford.
Christopher Wormell (Illustrator)
Chris Wormell is a self-taught artist, and the winner of the Ragazza Prize at Bologna in 1991. Two Frogs won the Nestlé Bronze Award, Molly and the Night Monster was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal and One Smart Fish won the Booktrust Early Years Awards Best Picture Book. His books include George and the Dragon and The Big Ugly Monster and the Little Stone Rabbit which was recently adapted into a stage play. Chris lives in North London with his wife and children.

For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging materials; any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only; for the UK, our standard rate is for first class, and the priority rate includes tracked (signed for) delivery; for International sales, our standard rate is for Airmail delivery, and the priority rate is for tracked (International signed for) delivery. We would prefer that you choose the priority rate (tracked option) for higher value books of say £50 or more. Please note that we will always reduce shipping fees where appropriate e.g. for smaller (lighter) books when we accept your order. For heavier books and sets etc. we will often 'soak up' the extra cost, but on occasion, we may need to charge more than the quoted shipping fee. However, customers will always have the option to either accept or decline the revised order amount. We will also reduce the overall shipping fee for multiple orders. We will endeavour to ship all books within two business days of receiving your order.
