Go As Alice. Englewood Cliffs, NJ: Prentice-Hall, Inc., 1971. First Edition, First Printing. Octavo (21.75cm); yellow cloth, titled in black on spine; dustjacket; [viii],159,[1]pp. Hint of foxing to text edges, with a few faint foxed spots to covers; Near Fine. Proof copy and first edition of this anonymously-written work of young adult fiction, charting an unnamed diarist's descent into addiction and self-destructive behavior after being introducted to LSD. Speculation about the book's authenticity and true authorship have been circulating since the late 1970s, though the book is now attributed to Beatrice Sparks (1917-2012), who at the time of publication was a Mormon youth counselor and aspiring writer in her 50s. The book was a publishing sensation, selling millions of copies, and continuously in print since 1971. While the book was adapted for TV in 1973 (starring Jamie Smith-Jackson and William Shatner), its real legacy is being one of the key works establishing the commercial potential of young adult fiction. Elusive in the first printing, with the proof state being genuinely uncommon. N° de ref. del artículo 7868
