Tasselli con titoli e filetti in oro ai dorsi a a cinque nervature. Abrasioni alle cerniere. Al secondo volume una tavola musicale fuori testo, contenente "Ottave alla Fiorentina". Edizione originale di un'opera pubblicata in confutazione delle "Letters from Italy. Describing the Customs and Manners of that Country, in the Years 1765 and 1766", edite nel 1766 da Samuel Sharp. Così si manifesta il pensiero del Baretti nella Prefazione: "The following work was not undertaken solely with design to animadvert upon the remarks of Mr. Sharp and those of other English writers, who after a short tour have ventured to describe Italy and the Italians . A natural movement of curiosity induced me to run over those volumes: but I found them . so full of strange judgments on men and things, taken from sudden and superficial impressions, that I thought myself happy in the opportunity I had of tearing to pieces each leaf as I went on in the perusal of this series of observations". L'opera venne poi tradotta in italiano. Giuseppe Marco Antonio Baretti (Torino, 24 aprile 1719 ? Londra, 5 maggio 1789), dopo aver vissuto dieci anni a Londra e qui aver dato alle stampe uno stimato "A Dictionary of the English and Italian Languages", rientrò in Italia dove assunse lo pseudonimo di Aristarco Scannabue e iniziò la pubblicazione di una rivista innovativa, "La frusta letteraria", pubblicata dal 1763 al 1765. > Ingamells, "A Dictionary of British and Irish Travellers in Italy, 1701-1800", 850.
