Laid in is a letter to Peter Drucker from the daughter of the owner explaining that she was a graduate of the University of Illinois' School of Management and Drucker was her favorite management author and wondering if the mother could audit a class. She obviously did as a copy of Drucker's syllabus is laid in as well and the volume is inscribed to her on the half-title page. Peter F. Drucker (1909-2005) was the foremost management thinker of the 20th century who wrote extensively on management, managing oneself, and overall challenges facing society with the growth of the modern corporation. Drucker was also known as the "Father" of modern management and this has always been thought of as his most important book. It was not often that Drucker signed books, he was not one for book tours or for venturing much beyond his home or classroom in Claremont, California -- those seeking his advice came to him.
