Title page with contemporary signature Libri Petri Watkinson, 1644 . Minor toning or occasional light watermarks else a solid and sound copy. Occasional leaves with marginal trimming presumably as issued. Final leaf with a contemporary hand-written page of references, it appears to be in the same hand as the signature to the title page. Overall a good, sound copy presented in an attractive restored period binding. Peter Watkinson [ca. 1607 ca. 1688]. Son of Peter Watkinson, minister at Winkworth, Derbyshire. Matriculated from Trinity College in 1625, and gained a BA in 1628/9. He taught at Chesterfield School from 1627. Potentially sequestered at Chigwell from 1643-1648. He then became rector of Kirk Ireton, Derbyshire, a post he still held in 1658. He was vicar of Hanbury, Staffordshire from 1662-1668, assistant minister at Sheffield from 1667-1670, and rector of Edlington, Yorkshire until his death in 1688. Bound in a contemporary tan calf binding. Nicely re-backed in a matching period style with blind lines. Corners and edges with some wear else an attractive and sound restored contemporary binding.
