Paperback. The Fractured Crown is a high-stakes political fantasy that chronicles the seismic shift of a kingdom in transition. After seven centuries of absolute monarchy under the Thornheart dynasty, the aging and "spiritually broken" King Aldric Thornheart is forced to abdicate by his own children: the calculating Lyris, the idealistic Aldric the Younger, and the enigmatic, world-weary Theron. In the wake of the crown's collapse, a fledgling Regency Council attempts to govern a realm where certainty has been replaced by "negotiation and balance". As the siblings struggle to establish legitimacy, they must navigate a minefield of internal and external threats, including: Ecclesiastical Conflict: High Priestess Meridian's attempt to assert the priesthood's veto power over secular rule.Provincial Fragmentation: Ambitious governors and merchant princes who begin to hedge their bets against a weakening central authority. The Northern Storm: A massive invasion by Northmen warriors led by the fierce Ragnar Bloodaxe, testing the Council's ability to defend the realm without a king. The Rise of Military Ambition: The threat of a coup from within by the war hero Lord Castellan Venn.Through scholarly debates at the Great Library and bloody battles at the fortress of Northgate, the novel explores the fragile nature of power, the necessity of national narratives, and the grueling birth of a constitutional government in a world that still yearns for the shadow of a throne.
