Interesting facts about the great game of cricket including accounts of some of the earlier matches played for large sums of money, of bets, the first military single-wicket and first military double-wicket matches, ladies' matches (with accounts of dress), prices of admission, the evolution of the cricket-card, evolution of cricketer's dress & anecdotes about old matches. Text clean throughout. Red cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine. Blindstamp illustration of cricket bats and ball on front cover. Spine a little faded. Top and bottom of spine bumped. Rear board lightly stained towards bottom. Overall condition VG to VG+.
