The material is from the 1920's. Frewer and Ryan ran a Hosiers, Glovers,Military & Colonial Outfitters & Shirt Makers business at 48 Sackville Street, Dublin in the 1920's before and during the early yearsThe Irish Free State (Saorstat Eireann). The Collection comprises almost 60 items: (1) Correspondence, notes & a sketch & a notebook include correspondence in the hand of the Ryan partner in the business refrring to agreement made with regard to financial arrangements and partners having different views on the way to run things & reference to the agreement being a friendly business. Another letter from P.J. Walsh of 19 Wellington Road, Pembroke, Dublin to "John" explains that he is breaking up his house in Waterloo Road. He goes on to say he anticipates having to raise money and will have first claim on that. THis letter is on Paymaster General's Dublin Castle notepaper. In a note dated April 8th 1921 John Fetherston admits taking 2 hats whiCh he will return the next day and that he is receiving wage of 25/i one weeks wages that day. (2) A Typed Case opinion by Crowley, Bolger and Cusack Solicitors dated April 13th 1935 refrs to the fact that Mr Frewen is in financial difficulties and in danger of losing the premises he leases at Sackville Street which is sublet to other parties & from which Mr. Frewen makes a profit. A debtor list also relates to Frewen's difficulties. (3) Assorted notes and correspondence including some from Revenue shed further light on the nature of the financial situation.
