Condition is Very Good Minus, with cover As Is.** First edition of this exceptional instructional work featuring original water color cover art, largely from Century Magazine covers, executed by the artists. Parrish (1870-1966) was a household name during the opening decades of the 20th Century, with his commercial artwork gracing showrooms and advertising pages across the world. Guerin (1866-1946), a friend of Parrish's, was able to secure himself as an illustrator for The Century Magazine and Scribner's. Guerin's designs reveal Parrish's influence on him as a colorist. Scannell (1894-1985), born in Utah, but whose career centered around New York, and Bronxville, NY after returning from serving in World War I, w/ bookplate mounted on verso of front cover. First edition of this exceptional instructional work featuring original water colour cover art, largely from Century Magazine covers, executed by the artists. Parrish (1870-1966) was a household name during the opening decades of the 20th Century with his commercial artwork gracing showrooms and advertising pages across the World, and Century Magazine in 1912 deemed him the "Master of Make-Believe" as his work lent richness and picturesque qualities to subjects covered. Guerin (1866-1946) was close with Parrish, trained in Chicago, and worked as a scene backdrop painter before enrolling at the Academie Julian, and as a close friend of Parrish was able to secure himself as an illustrator for The Century Magazine, and Scribner's. Guerin's designs reveal Parrish's influence on him as a colourist, and shared his interests in exotic locales and allegorical subject matter for his magazine covers, and murals.
