This is a wonderfully illustrated, antique copy of "The Works of OLIVER GOLDSMITH" - With Introductions, Notes, and a Life of Oliver Goldsmith by John Francis Waller. Circa 1870's (there is no date of publication stated, but the year "1872" is written on a front end paper); Cassell, Petter, and Galpin; London. This edition is beautifully illustrated throughout with numerous full-page and in-text drawings. The book opens with the "Life of Oliver Goldsmith" followed by his works, including "The Vicar of Wakefield." Three quarter leather binding with gilt decorations and lettering on the front cover and spine, and gilt page edges on all sides of the text block. Condition: Light soiling to the covers. The cover corners are worn with the tips exposed. Rubbing to the leather along the left and right edges of the spine. Bright gilt page edges on all sides of the text block. Tight binding with no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. There is an insignificant crack at the front hinge between the end paper and pastedown - despite the crack, the front cover is still securely attached. Occasional mild foxing to the text pages, otherwise clean. Name/date (1872) written in ink on a front end paper. The front end papers have a light stain at the top edge. Overall the book is in Good condition.
