Añadir al carritoFirst Edition. First printing. Octavo. Red cloth hardcover; dustjacket; red top-stain; xiv,[1]-365pp. A tight, clean copy but for a superficial damp-mark to bottom and bottom fore edge of text block, with no associated rippling and not extending into page margins; top-stain deep and even; Very Good. In the original dustwrapper, unclipped (priced $5.95 on front flap), lightly rubbed at flap-folds and edges, with spots of soil to lighter portions, Very Good. Nader's first book, an exposé of the lax safety standards of the American automotive industry, especially General Motors and its chic-but-deadly roadster the Corvair. The book made Nader a household name, and essentially represents the birth of the consumer advocacy movement in the United States. Still a classic of American investigative journalism, enormously influential and surprisingly uncommon in the first printing. Despite flaws, this remains a quite presentable copy.
