"Union Gospel Mission, celebrating 65 years of Rescue, was founded in 1933, in the heart of the depression, by one Ed Clark, who had himself been rescued from a drunkards lifestyle in St. Paul, Minnesota. This Christ-centered humanitarian work has been kept alive by a host of dedicated, compassionate Christians who, 'constrained by the love of Christ,' have remained true to the Biblical mandate to 'preach the gospel' to'the least, the last, and the lost' in the concrete jungles of inner city Winnipeg. The inspiring testimonies recorded by the writer, E.D. Hughes are representative of a cross section of a multitude of people whose lives have been transformed by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ." >>>> Original Printing of 10,000 copies. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" Tall. Book.

The Union Rescue Mission (URM) is a private, Christian, homeless shelter in downtown Los Angeles's skid row. It is the largest, private, homeless shelter in the United States. Founded in 1891, it provides emergency and long-term services including food, shelter, clothing, medical and dental care, recovery programs, transitional housing, legal assistance, education, counseling, and job training. The URM was founded by Lyman Stewart, founder of the Union Oil Company and Biola University, as a Christian missionary outreach. It was initially called the Pacific Gospel Union, and it sponsored revival meetings in tents. Only in 1903 did the organization purchase a permanent home. In 1926, the City of Los Angeles purchased their property in order to build the Los Angeles City Hall, so the URM moved to a new building which came to be called 'the Mission on Main Street'. 56 pp. Englisch.
