Neatly extracted from a bound volume and expertly mended. This Act, passed in response to the severe economic conditions and widespread unemployment caused by the Great Depression, allocated $20 million for relief initiatives. Some aid came in the form of vouchers for food, clothing and shelter, but most relief came in the form of municipal public works projects (such as railways, roads, bridges, canals, and wharves). Money was also directed to provinces and municipalities to reimburse them for unemployment relief costs.
