Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: Very Good. As any retail or service worker will tell you, customers can be irrational, demanding, abusive, and brain-scramblingly, mind-bendingly strange. They can also be kind, thoughtful, funny, and full of pathos. Something about the often-fraught interaction between customer and worker, with the dividing line of the counter between them, loosens inhibitions, and has a kind of hot-house effect on eccentricity. In I Can't Remember the Title But the Cover is Blue, veteran bookseller Elias Greig collects the best, worst and downright weirdest customer encounters from his years working as a Sydney bookseller. From ill-behaved children to nostalgic seniors and everything in between, this hilarious and unpredictable book is the perfect gift for anyone who's ever been on the wrong side of a counter. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Hercule Poirot; London. "The Ravenscrofts didn't seem that kind of person. They seemed well balanced and placid." And yet, twelve years earlier, the husband had shot the wife, and then himself - or perhaps it was the other way around, since sets of both of their fingerprints were on the gun, and the gun had fallen between them. The case haunts Ariadne Oliver, who had been a friend of the couple. The famous mystery novelist desires this real-life mystery solved, and calls upon Hercule Poirot to help her do so. Poirot is now a very old man, but his mind is as nimble and as sharp as ever and can still penetrate deep into the shadows. But as Poirot and Mrs. Oliver and Superintendent Spence reopen the long-closed case, a startling discovery awaits them. And if memory serves Poirot (and it does!), crime - like history - has a tendency to repeat itself. Book.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good+. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good dj. Illustrated by (dj design) Edward Meshekoff Ilustrador. First American Edition. [light wear to book's extremities, a little age-toning to edges of text block; jacket chipped at top of spine and at lower left corner of front panel, with light staining and a bit of edgewear]. The first book by this British writer, about the intense friendship between two very different women, one of whom is thrust into a deep and devastating introspection after the other meets a violent death. Per the jacket blurb, the author had had a somewhat unsettled childhood, but had wanted to be a writer since the age of twelve, and had "consigned a number of tentative books and plays to the dust-bin" before completing this one (which was first published in England under the title "Honey Out of the Rock"). She proceeded to make up for lost time, following up this novel with three more in just a few years -- after which she then apparently just stopped writing (or at least publishing). Maybe she burned out, or maybe -- given that she already had three children with her husband, novelist/journalist/poet Hubert Nicholson -- her subsequent literary silence was due to nothing more complicated than a decision, or a need, to devote more time to her family. (Interesting to note that when Mr. Nicholson died in 1996, she was referred to as "novelist Barbara Collard" in at least one obituary, but it wasn't even made plain whether or not she had survived him.).
