Description: From: The first edition of Jan van Veen's very popular work "Zinne-Beelden oft Adams Appel." Amsterdam: Everhard Cloppenburgh, 1642. This first edition was the only edition to include the French diptychs below each emblem, and the only edition in this larger (4to) size. This popular series describes an ironic description of Dutch contemporary morality, attractively illustrated by landscape / genre scenes in a painterly style. Several later ed. were published. Salomon Saverij / Savery / Savry (1594-ca. 1665) was a Dutch artist, nephew of Roelant Savery.
