Bound in full brown period calf, spine eith raised bands, covers bordered with twin gilt fillets (quite rubbed, front cover detached; some toning to text). PROVENANCE: With an ink note (a long quote from Benjamin Franklin about Lyons, with signature removed and date of 1847) on front pastedown; there are 3 pencil notes on front free endpaper in the same hand, including one reading: 'I reviewed briefly this vol. in the Philobiblion Vol. I C.M.S.'; pencil signature of William [Berman?] on front endpaper. A scarce early edition.

Four-page leaflet: Illustrated cover title (with entire text enclosed within a single bold rule border with ornaments at the corners), interior pages with a short biographical sketch and a transcription of Pyott's birth certificate, verso of integral leaf with a repeat of the title. Cover illustration from a photograph of Pyott with a normal size man (his manager). Pyott (1887-1937) "toured through the whole of South Africa during 1903-04; also through Belgium, France, Germany, and Switzerland." For Pyott, OCLC locates only a real-photo postcard (from 1929); we've also located a variant (clearly later) of this promotional, issued in 1929. Very good. Original illustrated self-wrappers (folded, with small marginal tape repairs a corner folds and one edge). (11119).
