Paperback. Condición: Very Good. In this edition of this classic study of postmillennialism, you will sense anew the powerful message of Psalm 72 that Christ shall have dominion from sea to sea (Psa 72:8). You will learn that God's word boldly promises that the whole earth will be filled with his glory (72:19) so that all nations will call him blessed (72:17) - before Christ returns. Many evangelicals today are concerned about those being Left Behind on this Late Great Planet Earth as it collapses into absolute chaos. But the postmillennialist optimistically believes regarding Christ that He Shall Have Dominion throughout the earth. In this book you will find the whole biblical rationale for the postmillennial hope, from its incipient beginning in Genesis to its glorious conclusion in Revelation. Your faith will be re-invigorated as you begin to recognize that the gospel is the power of God unto salvation (Rom 1:16) and that our Lord Jesus really meant it when he commanded us to go and make disciples of all the nations (Matt 28:19).…

John Jasper, 1812-1901, was a nationally known African American preacher from Virginia, perhaps most famous for his sermon "The Sun do Move." While it is hard to imagine that a Richmond real estate developer would have used this name in the 1950s or perhaps earlier for anything other than a project or development aimed at African Americans, we found nothing online that made clear the nature of this development. M. H. Omohundro, President of the real estate company, is described on the website of the Omohundro Institute as being descended from a Huguenot family who settled in Virginia in 1670.…

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: Very Good. First Edition. Adelaide, [AAMC Reunion Committee], 1938. Oblong octavo, [ii] (title page, verso blank), 201 pages (plus 19a and its printed verso, numbered 21a) with some illustrations (all produced in brown ink from processed typescript) plus 47 pages of plates and 8 unnumbered sectional title leaves (all versos blank); all but 6 of the first 30 (and 2 later) pages are printed rectos only. Flush-cut pictorial wrappers with light wear to the extremities and a few trifling surface blemishes; occasional light foxing and mild signs of handling; a very good copy of a rare and unusual item. 'Ever since the cessation of hostilities of the Great War, 1914-1918, it has been the wish of Australian Army Medical Corps AIF ex-servicemen in South Australia, that we should have some permanent record of our Fallen Comrades, and to those who have "Passed On" since returning to Australia. The following pages are the expression of that wish' (foreword). The Honor Rolls run to 18 pages. Other contents include the reunion programme with a list of guests, Digger songs, 'War and Other Verses', and a lengthy section of war statistics and related items of interest. We have previously handled a copy in which was loosely inserted a 'Critique [of the book] by the Editor, "Rising Sun"', dated Adelaide, 31 March 1938. The information contained in our catalogue note at the time is worth repeating: 'Presumably, the reference is to "The Rising Sun. A Journal of the AIF in France. (With which is incorporated 'The Honk')"; nineteen numbers were issued between 25 December 1916 and 24 March 1917 (see Fielding and O'Neill, page 264). The anonymous critic is not only onside; his intimate remarks about the compilation and production of the book suggest he was very much inside as well. He writes the following about the AAMC Orderly Room in Adelaide, where the work was done: "the well remembered atmosphere of a dug-out was warmly recaptured. On the walls were Leyshon White pictures, crisp of technique, and so faithfully capturing the spirit that existed 'over there'. War-time quips were bandied freely; each chic female helper may well have been the ghost of Mam'selle herself; each flurry of sound from passing traffic may well have been the whine of more sinister objects"'. Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: VG+. Extremely rare and unusual late-19th-century atlas of large-scale Gaylord Watson maps of the regions of the United States, published by Perry & Spaulding in Boston in 1875. Watson's book is unusual as far as 19t. Tall, thin folio. Publisher's gilt-lettered cloth covers reading "PERRY & PAUDLINGS NEW COMMERCIAL COUNTY & RAILROAD ATLAS OF THE UNITED STATES ADN DOMINION OF CANADA", rebacked in modern black leatherette. 16 pages, 7 lithographed map sheets, some folding, all in vibrant original hand-color, [43]-56 pages. (A few leaves evidently misbound, but complete per the table of contents.) Extremely rare and unusual late-19th-century atlas of large-scale Gaylord Watson maps of the regions of the United States, published by Perry & Spaulding in Boston in 1875. Watson's book is unusual as far as 19th-century American atlases go; it essentially consists of a large map of New England in two sheets, a map of the eastern United States in four sheets (seemingly adapted from his 1874 Watson's New Business Man's County & Rail Road Map of the United States and Dominion of Canada), and a large folding map of what we would today call the Transmississippi West. The atlas is very consistent with Watson's output of large, vibrantly-colored, and scarce maps of American subjects. Rarity OCLC locates copies of related (though, based on collations, apparently not identical) atlases at Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, and the Osher Map Library. There is a digitized example in the Rumsey Collection 2841. Note, this atlas is not to be confused with Watson's 1875 New Commercial County and Railroad Atlas of the United States and Territories, and British Provinces. That atlas has a more standard configuration with double-page maps of individual states and territories. Maps Watson's New Township and Rail Road Map of New England. 1875. [Full collation available.] With a woodcut headpiece and initial to p. 1. Bound in contemporary dark brown calf with a double blind fillet border. The spine (rebacked, with the original backstrip laid down) is divided into seven panels by double gilt fillets. Gilt central ornament to each panel. Title gilt to red morocco in the second panel. Edges of the text-block marbled. Rebacked, with the original backstrip laid down. (Recently conserved; full report available.) Boards generally rubbed with a few scratches. Text-block good and bright. Armorial bookplate of the Earls of Macclesfield (South Library) dated to 1860 on the front paste-down. Blind-stamp of their armorial achievement to A2-4 and B1. John Evelyn (1620-1706) was the consummate XVIIc polymath. Historian, gardener, theologian, environmentalist, bibliophile, translator, cook; there was little on which Evelyn did not write. His diary, written over some six decades, brackets Pepys's. He also attained rather high positions at court, and that is what gave rise to the present work. Charles II charged him in 1670 to write an account of British naval dominance over the Dutch in the Second Anglo-Dutch War, although he never made it that far. In his usual expansive mode, Evelyn writes of ancient naval endeavors through to 1649. The Third Anglo-Dutch War (1672-1674) commenced while Evelyn was hard at work, and, by the time Evelyn had finished, England had lost and Charles was impelled to sign the second Treaty of Westminster. Written in a defiantly wartime spirit, Navigation and Commerce offended the Dutch so much that Charles, at the request of the Dutch ambassador, seized copies and presumably destroyed them. The survival of this copy (Pepys kept his too) is therefore rather remarkable. Evelyn was suitably miffed and did not continue the work. Pepys was to have continued the work, and in his letters continually pestered Evelyn for details (and reading lists, and general analysis of naval strategy) through the 1680's; Pepys's promised continuation does not survive to us. The book made its way to the South Library of Shirburn Castle (Oxfordshire), from 1716 the home of the Parkers, in 1721 created Earls of Macclesfield. The bookplate is dated 1860, which places it in the earldom of Thomas Augustus Wolstenholme Parker (the sixth earl, 1850-1896). Still in the Parker family, Shirburne Castle was built in the XIVc -- complete with moat and crenellations -- and renovated in the Georgian period. Its libraries were disbursed by Sotheby's London; the present item was lot 2654 in part VIII of that sale, 25 October 2006.
