Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fine. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 420 pages. Published in 2017. The author's breakthrough debut novel. One of the most sensational literary debuts of our time. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions, particularly copies that are signed on a tipped-in page. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only that sold out shortly after publication. The First Edition is now scarce. Presents Gabriel Tallent's "My Absolute Darling". His masterly first novel: "The breakout debut of the year" (The New York Times). "The word 'masterpiece' has been cheapened by too many blurbs. But 'My Absolute Darling' absolutely is one" (Stephen King). "A major American debut that incorporates psychological realism of the highest order juxtaposed with nature writing that at times is so lyrical you might as well be reading poetry" (The Houston Chronicle). "The year's must-read novel. Tallent in this debut makes an old story - the drama of coming of age - feel original and full of youthful power" (The Times of London). The flood of mostly positive, indeed rave reviews must have come as an immense and gratifying relief for the author, who spent, by his own account, almost ten years writing, re-writing, and re-writing again his gripping novel. An absolute "must-have" title for Gabriel Tallent collectors. This copy is very boldly and beautifully signed, placed, and dated in black pen-marker on the title page by the author: "Gabriel Tallent NYC 6/26/18". It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page, as many copies available online are. This title is a contemporary classic. This is one of few such signed, placed, and dated copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Copies available online have serious flaws, are subsequent printings, or are remainder-marked. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed copy thus. One of the most brilliant American writers of our time. A fine copy. ISBN 0735211175. Signed by Author.

Añadir al carritoHardcover Second Printing. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good+ dj. Illustrated by (dj) F.H. Horvath Ilustrador. American Edition. [beautiful clean copy with no discernible wear; jacket has small tears and minor chipping/paper loss at spine ends, a couple of short closed tears and associated creasing along bottom edge of front panel]. A "stirring tale, filled with color and movement, the setting being the autocratic life of the great nobles in the most wealthy and dissipated of the German states, Saxony, at the close of the seventeenth century. The story centers around the delicately beautiful Madelon de Neitschütz, who is forced by her unscrupulous father and dissipated brothers to choose wealth and power instead of love." The second of some two dozen novels produced under this pseudonym by this prolific author, whose works in the field of gothic horror/crime fiction (usually written as "Joseph Shearing" or "Marjorie Bowen") are highly collectable. Ferdinand Horvath, who illustrated the dust jacket, was a Hungarian-born illustrator who became a highly-regarded sketch artist at the Walt Disney studios in the 1930s; although not credited, he was known to have contributed to the character designs for SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: Very Good. First Edition. Adelaide, H.F. Leader, Government Printer, 1889. Octavo, 16 pages. Saddle-stapled title-wrappers; first page lightly marked; an excellent copy. The last page and a half are a 'Vocabulary of Aboriginals of the Upper Darling', also by Newland. This is a separately-paginated offprint of two articles read before the Geographical Society of Australasia, South Australian Branch, on 29 September 1887 and first published in Volume 2 of the Society's Proceedings. Ferguson 13320 ('Sewn', not stapled). We recently noticed for the first time Ferguson 13320a ('The Same. fo.; pp. 7. N.t.p. Sewn. Copies: P.L. Vic'), an edition we had not seen, nor even heard of, before. Trove makes short work of a solution: the paper was first read before the Society on 29 September 1887; it was then printed in the 'Adelaide Observer' on 3 and 10 December 1887. 13320a comprises uncorrected proofs of these newspaper articles.
