The Cole title is bound before the general title to the Bible and 204 plates on 51 leaves are inserted in the appropriate places through the biblical text. Later black calf binding, the boards panelled with gilt rolls and corner tools. The spine with ra…ised bands and gilt pallets. Rubbed on the edges and corners and an old damp mark at the top of the rear board, not visible on the text leaves. Marbled endpapers. Occasional headlines or catchwords trimmed by the binder. The paper shows spotting or toning as the sheets vary through the volume. There is a specially printed presentation leaf bound before the Common Prayer 'The GIFT of Mr. James Hudson,to His Godson JAMES CRISP.April 16. MDCCXXIX.' and two sheets of genealogical information at the end of the volume, much of it concerning a related family named Agg. A handsome example of an extra-illustrated Georgian King James Bible.

He also records other notable locations around Honolulu, including the Waipahu Sugar Mill, the Kilaeua Crater, Japanese Temple, the Mid-Pacific Railway wreck, Kapiolani Park, the Honolulu railway station, Sand Island, the naval destroyer Jeanne D'Arc, Sampans Haleiwa Bay, the Monoa Hotel, the Waipahi Sugar Mill, Diamondhead and Kahala Bay, Waikiki Beach, several shots of volcanoes and lava formations, and more. He even includes a shot of the pack mule he presumably used in his wanderings. Hawaiian photographs are scarce in the market, and continually more desirable, especially with holographic notations, like those present in this intriguing album. Seventy-eight mounted silver gelatin photographs, either 3½ x 5¼ inches or 2½ x 3½ inches. Oblong octavo photograph album, paper-covered boards, string-bound. Front cover detached, covers and spine chipped. Some album pages chipped, but photographs remain largely untouched. Very good.
