Hardcover. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fine. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 247 pages. Published in 2005. The author's third collection of essays. One of Camille Paglia's finest achievements. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a s…mall and limited first print run by Pantheon Books as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. Presents Camille Paglia's "Break, Blow, Burn: Camille Paglia Reads Forty-Three of The World's Best Poems". Her first book since "Vamps And Tramps" (1994), a decade-long hiatus. Close readings of self-contained poems. "America's premier intellectual provocateur explores and celebrates a series of great poems of the Western tradition, including some surprising discoveries of her own. She brings new energy and insight to our understanding of poems we already know such as masterpieces by Shakespeare, Donne, Shelley, Dickinson, Lowell, and Plath. She leads us to appreciate the artistry of writers with whom we may not be familiar such as Chuck Wachtel and Wanda Coleman. She hails the songwriter Joni Mitchell as a major contemporary poet. Daring, erudite, entertaining, and infused throughout with Paglia's inimitable style and passion, this beautifully written book, and the dazzling mind behind it, will entice readers to begin or renew a passionate engagement with poetry" (Publisher's blurb). The close examination of a text, word for word, is a lost art. Whatever one's feelings about the rebarbative author ("American Feminism's worst nightmare"), this is an engaging and valuable book. Whatever its ultimate destiny, it occupies a crucial place in her oeuvre. An absolute "must-have" title for Camille Paglia collectors. This copy is very boldly and beautifully signed in blue ink-pen on the title page by Camille Paglia. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. Paglia's signature fills up the page. This title is a great collection. This is one of very few such signed copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Copies available online have very serious flaws, are subsequent printings, or are remainder-marked. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed copy thus. One of the most important and influential American writer/intellectuals of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER CAMILLE PAGLIA TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 0375420843. Signed by Author.

Soft cover. Condición: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Los Angeles: Roy Squires, 1952. Volume 5, No. 5, the January, 1952 issue of what had been the Fantasy Advertiser fanzine, titles now, for the first time in this issue, Science Fiction Advertiser. Cover by Morris Scott Dollens, rear cover features Neil Austin channeling Picasso (see…scans). Both have illustrations within, as well. Octavo, stapled wraps, 33 numbered pages. Near Fine copy, with a small cut at spine top (see scans). Otherwise a high grade, very sharp, undamaged copy. Essentially, the premier issue under the Science Fiction Advertiser name. Though its content of ads, book lists, book reviews, plus some commentary by "the editor", that being Roy Squires at this time, remained unchanged. Reviews and similar commentary on sci-fi within this issue are by Darrell C. Richardson; Clyde Beck; Carolyn Gaybard; Roger Scott, R.G. Medhurst, and the editor; some of the books they review are Arthur Louis Joquel III's "The Challenge of Space", Raymond J. Healy's "New Tales of Space and Time", Bleiler & Dikty's "The Best Science Fiction Stories: 1951", Stanton A. Coblentz's "After 12,000 Years", as well as Coblentz's "When the Birds Fly South", Arthur C. Clarke's "The Sands of Mars", and Sam Moskowitz's "The Immortal Storm". Many more titles are either briefly mentioned, advertised, or discussed. A classic issue from a fanzine classic from the golden age of sci-fi, replete with ads, sale and auction notifications, publications notices, and more - all focused on science fiction, fantasy and horror, by intent, but mostly on Science Fiction by execution at this time. L-pr1. Morris Scott Dollens, Neil Austin (ilustrador).

Hardcover. Condición: New. Estado de la sobrecubierta: New. 1st Edition. EXTRAORDINARILY SCARCE SIGNED! FIRST EDITION STATED, first printing. Full number line present. Book is brand new and unread. Personally hand signed, dated, and located directly to the full title page by the Editor and multimillion bestselling author, Amor T…owles, and on Valentine's Day of all days! "New York City 2.14.24. Dust jacket hand covered in protective archival grade Mylar for many worry free years of reading/collecting! Amor Towles selects the best mystery short stories of the year, including tales by Andrew Child, Jeffery Deaver, and T.C. Boyle. In his introduction to this volume, guest editor Amor Towles pays tribute to the forgotten person of the mystery story the cadaver. "Male or female, old or young, rich or poor," he writes, "for over a hundred years the cadaver has been accommodating, gracious, and generally on time. There is no other figure in crime who has proven to be more reliable." Like the cadaver, this anthology series, now in its third year of publication, is also proving reliable, bringing to readers the finest mystery/crime/suspense stories of the year from a variety of sources including mystery and general interest magazines, anthologies, online publications, and literary periodicals. Among the treasures collected herein are Jeffery Deaver's "Dodge," in which a chess match between a volatile woman and a U.S. marshal takes a surprise twist; "The Landscaper's Wife," a suspense-filled tale by Brendan DuBois that explodes all expectation; and Kerry Hammond's "Strangers at a Table," which offers a darkly witty homage to Agatha Christie's Miss Marple. The collection contains well-known authors such as T.C. Boyle and up-and-comers such as Jessi Lewis; it features tales with famous crime-fighters (Jack Reacher and Sherlock Holmes) and a bonus story from the annals of mystery history by Edith Wharton. In short, these pages promise something for every reader of crime fiction, no matter the particularities of his or her taste. Signed by Author(s).

A USA Today bestseller * A Good Morning America Book Club Pick * A Good Housekeeping Book Club Pick * An ELLE Best Mystery/Thriller of 2025 * A BookRiot Best Mystery/Thriller of 2025 "It starts out feeling pretty light and fun, but I promise you, you have no idea where this story is going." -Taylor Jenkins Reid, recommended for her Must-Read Book of 2025 in TIME Magazine An insanely competitive housing market. A desperate buyer on the edge. In Marisa Kashino's darkly humorous debut novel, Best Offer Wins, the white picket fence becomes the ultimate symbol of success―and obsession. How far would you go for the house of your dreams? Eighteen months and 11 lost bidding wars into house-hunting in the overheated Washington, DC suburbs, 37-year-old publicist Margo Miyake gets a tip about the perfect house, in the perfect neighborhood, slated to come up for sale in one month. Desperate to escape the cramped apartment she shares with her husband Ian ― and in turn, get their marriage, plan to have a baby, and whole life back on track ― Margo becomes obsessed with buying the house before it's publicly listed and the masses descend (with unbeatable, all-cash offers in hand). A little stalking? Harmless. A bit of trespassing? Necessary. As Margo infiltrates the homeowners' lives, her tactics grow increasingly unhinged―but just when she thinks she's won them over, she hits a snag in her plan. Undeterred, Margo will prove again and again that there's no boundary she won't cross to seize the dream life she's been chasing. The most unsettling part? You'll root for her, even as you gasp in disbelief. Dark, biting, and laugh-out-loud funny, Best Offer Wins is a propulsive debut and a razor-sharp exploration of class, ambition, and the modern housing crisis. Signed by Author(s).
