Añadir al carritoFirst editions of six works, later printings of two works; all but one volume inscribed by the author for the same couple and signed again by Mittelholzer on the title page. The inscription in Latticed Echoes reads, "For Jack and Jean - Here's the 'new technique'. Hope you'll be able to read it. With usual good wishes, Edgar, 12/1/60". Mittelholzer (1909-1965) called the experimental style of Latticed Echoes the "Leitmotiv technique", taking inspiration from Wagner. Born in British Guiana, Mittelholzer is considered the first professional Caribbean novelist to publish in English. He moved to London in 1947 and met Leonard Woolf, who published his A Morning At The Office (1950) at the Hogarth Press. The set includes one of his greatest achievements, the Kaywana trilogy. The historical fiction series spans hundreds of years of Guyana's past and comprises the novels Children of Kaywana, The Harrowing of Hubertus, and Kaywana Blood. Mittelholzer wrote prolifically and this set contains eight of the 13 novels he published with Secker & Warburg between 1952 and 1961. 8 works, octavo. Original bindings with dust jackets. Foyle's ticket in Tale. Foxing to edges; jackets unclipped, occasional fading to spines, generally bright, rubbing and chipping to extremities, with a few long splits to folds (one repaired), puncture to Children jacket spine affecting two letters: a very good set in good jackets.
