Cloth good+ or very good- with light shelf-wear and fading, light edgewear including gently bumped spine ends and fore-edge corners. The spines of Fellowship and Towers are cocked forward slightly; Return of the King is square. All three bindings sound. Dust jackets scuffed, edgeworn, slightly faded, and protected in Mylar; the jackets for Towers and Return of the King are about good, with chipping at spine ends and fore-edge corners, and a few small spots of staining to the front inner flap of Towers; the jacket for Fellowship is acceptable only, with a few scratches, a long closed tear across the spine extending half-way into the front panel, and larger chipping at spine ends and fore-edge corners, including loss to the publisher name at spine foot. Dust jackets are not price-clipped, with $6.00 cover prices at front inner flaps. Gift inscription penned to front paste down of Fellowship of the Ring; staining to upper fore-edge margin of the first two pages of The Two Towers (reflected from similar at DJ inner flap). Interiors else clean, texts bright and unmarked.

Bound in turquoise heavily decorated in gilt and with illustrated medallions to the front. In maroon slipcase with gilt titles. All three volumes are very clean, bright and neat. Slipcase has a very few, very faint marks and has some very slight surface bubbling to the maroon papers to its sides. The slicpase is sound. A really very nice set of this collectible trilogy. Fine set in good+ slipcase.

Dust jacket condition: Near Fine: very clean dark grey ground with white and black lettering to front panel and to spine with no fading; no losses or tears; just a very few tiny white spots and scuffs to spine and to two of four flap corners; rear panel is a little marked with a very thin stain to the bottom edge only. The Two Towers, 1971: Near Fine: similar condition to previous volume, but with no spotting at all to paste downs or to end papers. Dust jacket condition: Near Fine: as above, but with no spotting nor stain to verso; very thin off-white line to edge of rear flap bend and to part of bottom edge of front flap. The Return of The King, 1971. Near Fine condition as above: but with particularly bright and clean spine and boards. Dust jacket condition: Near Fine: as above, but with tiny white scuffs to grey spine tips; two-inch red half-circle mark to verso and brown age stains to rear flap edge. Altogether, a very handsome set in exceptionally good condition for its age.
