Añadir al carritoHardback. Condición: Very Good. Second Impression. 1939. Second impression. 480pp. Michael Innes was the pseudonym of John Innes Mackintosh Stewart (1906-1994), a Scottish novelist and academic. He is probably best known for his crime novels featuring the detective Sir John Appleby. Stop Press is the fourth in his Appleby series, and was issued in America under the alternative title The Spider Strikes. In the novel, gentleman writer Richard Eliot's popular fictional character 'The Spider' seems to have come to life, performing a series of crimes and practical jokes apparently drawn from the author's subconscious. It seems probable that somebody wishes to drive him out of his mind and prevent the publication of his next novel, the thirty eighth in the series, by making him cry "stop press" to his publisher. The book is bound in the original black cloth covered boards with red titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling and light staining to the boards, including a circular glass mark on the rear board. The bottom front corner and the spine ends are bumped. The contents are tight and clean with no inscription.

Añadir al carritoHard Cover. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Dust Jacket. First Edition. First UK Edition. Publisher's black boards with red lettering to the spine. A faint crease to the front board possibly caused by a production fault) otherwise a near fine copy with no inscriptions and foxing to the text block. In the RARE dustwrapper priced 8/6 net to the spine (as called for). The dustwrapper is VG indeed and is rubbed to the spine edges and has a slither of loss at the base of the spine. There are several, small, minor edge tears which have been neatly repaired on the verso with archival tape. The spine is slightly darkened (a common fault with Gollancz yellow dustwrappers of this period). The first edition is distinctly uncommon in dustwrapper. Looks very nice in its shiny Brodart-style protector. Appleby # 4. A country-house mystery. Photographs/scans available upon request.
