Previous owner's name at front pastedown, light toning throughout, contemporary leather quite worn, hinges cracking, a reading copy. This volume covers the period June 18, 1714 - December 20, 1714. The SPECTATOR was a famous series of essays, edited by the members of the fictional Spectator Club. It provided a picture of the social life of the times, while expressing the individual concerns of some of the fictional club members.

Joints cracked, but holding, hinges good, textblock is intact and firm. Contains articles No. 556, Friday, June 18, 1714 through No. 635, Monday, December 20, 1714.

Original full leather binding; five slightly raised bands to spine which is chipped at ends; lettering with spine's title label indiscernible but with legible gilt stamped "8" in compartment below; slender splitting along joints but hinges are firm as is text block; board corners worn. Edge toning to initial and rear leaves caused by boards' leather overlaps. Old pencil writing on front pastedown; old ink notation at top of rear free endpaper verso with modern ink price notation at rear pastedown's top right corner; ownership signature in antiquarian ink at top of title page; a few small stains to fore-edge shallowly affecting a few leaves at their margins which otherwise remain quite clean. Text comprised of No. 556, Tuesday, June 18, 1714 to No. 635, Monday, December 20 and concludes with unpaged Index.
