Group of four volumes of 'Diplomatic Correspondence' from 1861 to 1863, each signed by Edwin L Stanton, likely the son of Lincoln's Secretary of War, Edwin Stanton. Pencil notation in back says 'Secretary of War Edwin Stanton's Set', but that is not confirmed. Two of the books contain text as part of Lincoln's State of the Union address to congress (or equivalent for that time) and then what is called 'Papers Relating to Foreign Affairs', which includes a substantial amount of articles or messages related to dealings with foreign countries. Each is organized by country. Fascinating insight into how Lincoln's team was working and dealing with foreign countries during the civil war.
