Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: No Jacket as Issued. 3rd Edition. Third edition by the noted English actor-manager, comedian, playwright and Poet Laureate Colley Cibber (1671-1757). Cibber was a controversial writer whose "plays" were "adapted" from such writers as Moliere and Shakespeare. This "autobiography" has been challenged for its factual inaccuracy but was popular and lucrative for Cibber because of its chatty anecdotal style. This copy of the 1750 Third Edition is in Very Good condition with no user marks within and stable binding. Its leather boards have some wear at the edges, and the pages--particularly the frontpiece pages--have discoloration (foxing) to be expected a book over 260 years old. We offer photos that show the foxing.…

Añadir al carritoThird edition. 8vo, pp. [xxiv], 555; with fine engraved portrait frontispiece by Vandergucht after Vanloo; a very good copy in contemporary calf, spine with orange morocco label (head of spine slightly chipped). Third edition of Cibber's autobiography - the first such from the London stage, and a classic of theatrical history. The Apology was first published as a sumptuous quarto in 1740, with a second edition following in 8vo the same year. Both these editions were published for Cibber himself, but in March 1750 he sold the copyright to Dodsley for £52.10s: Dodsley then added two more pieces, the Short Account taken from his own edition of Old Plays (10 vols, 1744), and the Dialogue from Wright's Historia Histrionica. An attractive copy. Arnott & Robinson 2558.…
