Both volumes are bound as one by a prior owner with the gilt stamped title to spine 'Classics Vol 2. With an illustrated title page to each work. The first work is James Thomson's famous poem series The Seasons. The four poem cycle were extremely popular and influential to later poets. The second work is the poetical works of Oliver Goldsmith. Goldsmith had a successful career in writing both poetry and prose. His pastoral poem The Deserted Village condemns rural depopulation and the pursuit of excessive wealth. No publishing information to either volume, printer's colophon to the rear of The Seasons stating 'Scott, Printer, 50 Hatfield Street, Stamford Street. Details In a half straight grained morocco binding with paper covered boards. Externally, sound with small patches of slight rubbing to the joints and to the extremities. Heavy rubbing to the spine, particularly to the head and tail of spine. Prior owner's signature to the recto of front endpaper, Arthur Swinbourn. Prior owner's brief biography to the half title page of both volumes. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned to the edges. The odd spot throughout. Very Good. book.
