Hardback: 8¾" x 5¾". Condición: Fine: Very small signs of wear. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fine. 1st UK Edition. © 1981: A stand-alone novel by Steven Bauer. 1st UK edition, 1st printing:- Synopsis: Once in a while a book is published that transcends all known categories, offering such delight, truth and beauty that it is immediately hailed as a classic tale. 'Satyrday' is just such a book, bearing comparison with 'The Once And Future King', 'Watership Down' and 'The Lord Of The Rings'. It is a fable conceived by a writer rich in imagination and humour, whose senses are finely tuned to the deepest workings of man and nature. Superficially 'Satryday' is the story - funny and frightening by turns but always moving - of an evil owl's attempt to rule in a world of eternal darkness. He orders his captive minions, the ravens, to steal the moon from the night sky, and once he has her safely imprisoned in the branches of the leafless trees of his lair in the Deadwood Forest, he turns his attention to quenching the fire of her sister, the sun. But far away in the Outer Lands the moon's disappearance is observed with consternation. An unlikely quartet sets out to vanquish the owl: a satyr, rough guardian of the future, an innocent boy, a magical snow fox and Deirdre, an escapee raven. Beset from all sides by the owl's spies, thwarted by the havoc he has wrought, their journey seems impossible, and with every day the captive moon grows weaker and the future of the world more desperate. On a deeper level, 'Satyrday' is a reaffirmation of those qualities that make us human: love, loyalty, respect and friendship. It points to the utter loneliness and insecurity of tyranny and evil, and it explores our place in the natural world, our relationship to that world and to one another. It is concerned with the choices we make between solitude and community, the light and the dark, regeneration and decay:- Review(s): "An outstanding first novel, 'Satryday' will delight readers of all ages":- (original cost £6.95).
