Color illustrated card-stock boards, stapled, 12 x 8 7/8 inches, unpaginated (7 leaves, 14 pages); 7 beautiful, color, full-page illustrations (plus the one on the front/back board) by Ann Justina. Very good (colors bright; modest browning, recto of first page and verso of last page; mild offsetting from the illustrations; binding intact, but a little loose --- previously discreetly repaired, i.e., sewn). Adapted from a Swedish folk tale. The story is entertaining, but the illustrations are stunning. "From a cave in the mountain side, comes the sound of laughing and singing. This cave is the home of Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus and their three little Elfen children. The Santa family is preparing for its big Christmas party, the biggest party of the year. All the people, who live in the forest, are to be invited. Santa has just finished writing the invitations and he says to the Elf twins, Jontie and Pontie, 'Please deliver these to all our forest friends.' So, Jontie and Pontie deliver invitations to the Old Lady of the Tree Stump, the Fairy Queen of the Moon, Mrs. Poison Toadstool, Gluff, the Storm Troll, and the flowers of the forest, Prince Blue Bell, Miss Poppy Red, Bachlor Button , Miss Wild Rose, Little Baby Buttercup and Mrs. Sunflower. Gluff is ugly. He has a big nose and long grey hair. He has a long tail that wiggles at times. For pets, he has a mean cat and a black crow. The crow sits on a knotty stick he uses as a cane. Pontie fearfully climbs the steps to Gluff's throne and hands him the invitation. Pontie is afraid, but Gluff only grins and shows his two big teeth. He takes the invitation and reads it.
