Spine ends have some curling, and corners have a slight bow inward. Foxing and discoloration at endpapers and pastedown endpapers. Front endpaper has inscription from previous owner in pencil: "Darling - When I get well, if I ever complain about being bored, or tired of routine , remind me of our conversation at the Stanford Hospital, [???] at tStanford Hospital, Oct 16 '38." Small stains at bottom edges and upper corners of text pages 24-58, but do not affect readability. Otherwise the book is in good condition for its age. With exception of the minor staining, the text pages are sharp, bright, and crisp. Binding is tight and pliable. Hinges are intact and smooth. Dustjacket is in fair condition and is encased in protective mylar. Has large panhandle-shaped chip at top of the spine, with the pan measuring 0.5", and another chip at bottom-third of spine measuring about 0.25". Upper corners have wear. Top edge of back cover has folded tear measuring 1" across and 0.25" down. Overall the book is in solid shape.

The dust jacket has small chips off the spine tips, wear on the corners, small closed tares & wear along the edges. There is a red stain on the bottom of the back cover near the spine. It is not price clipped but the price is partially covered by an old sticker.

Spine has softened at the edges and has small tears and decay, also some sun fading. Title is barely faded on spine or front. Top to bottom split after front end page, but hinges still very well attached to the binding. Pages, other than a small pencil note on front end page, and some small spots at leading edge for a few initial pages, are slightly yellowed, but unmarked or folded.
