Randall was an African-American poet and poetry publisher from Detroit, Michigan. He founded a seminal publishing company named Broadside Press which published many leading African-American writers and poets, among them Sonia Sanchez, Audre Lorde, Gwendolyn Brooks, Etheridge Knight, Sterling Brown, Margaret Walker, and others. This book of poetry compiles poems written by Randall between the 1930s-60s and often concern topics such as inner city life, his military service in the Pacific during WWII, and the Black freedom struggle. Randall was involved in the Black Arts Movement of the '60s-70s and saw himself as "guardian of a poetic space out of which black poets may create without restriction." Spine is uncreased, binding tight and sturdy; text also very good; minor rubbing, light edge-wear to wraps. Very good condition.
