Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good+. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. First Edition; First Printing. Clean and secure in original binding of cream cloth spine with navy blue boards; lower corners very clightly rounded in dustjacket with edgewear and chipping, now in mylar cover. Quite a decent example of the first edition of Matthiessen's third book. "RADITZER . is passive-aggressive, physically weak and socially a parasite, yet able to strike through the mask of civilized respectability and mastery to reveal in those he victimizes a deep-seated guilt and bewildering remorse. The kinship Raditzer insists he shares with the respectable Navy men whose tenuous security he undermines conveys Matthiessen's perception of the split between thought and action that manifests itself in the indecisiveness of American men." Añadir al carritohardcover. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. First Edition. New York. 1961. Viking Press. 1st Edition. Very Good in Slightly Worn Dustjacket. 152 pages. hardcover. keywords: American Literature. DESCRIPTION - 'Technically Matthiessen's neatest explication of character occurs in RADITZER. The figure who gives his name to the book is a passive-aggressive, physically weak and socially a parasite, yet able to strike through the mask of civilized respectability and mastery to reveal in those he victimizes a deep-seated guilt and bewildering remorse. The kinship Raditzer insists he shares with the respectable Navy men whose tenuous security he undermines conveys, as in RACE ROCK, Matthiessen's perception of the split between thought and action that manifests itself in the indecisiveness of American men. The tight narrative construction enforcing psychological parallels goes beyond the earlier novel, however, making it evident in RADITZER through the substance of style that the leading characters of the book amalgamate into a general type.' -John M. Reilly. inventory #5575 Very Good in Slightly Worn Dustjacket.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Near Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. First Edition. First edition, near fine in a very good dust jacket. The book has minor soiling to the white cloth at spine ends, and a faint erasure on front endpaper. The jacket has a little rubbing on the front flap fold, tiny chips at spine ends, and a little creasing and wear mainly at spine ends. An important association copy of this novel, inscribed by the author on the front endpaper: "For Marshall -/Who liked a good deal/of this, and understood/the rest. With many thanks/Peter/Jan. 3, 1961". Marshall Best was an editor at Viking in the late 1950's through the 1970's, ultimately becoming Viking's chairman. He undoubtedly worked with Matthiessen on this novel, as well as earlier novels Matthiessen did for Viking. The date of the inscription is very early for this book, as the official publication date was January 26, 1961. Inscribed by Author(s).
