HAMPTON AGRICULTURAL AND INDUSTRIAL SCHOOL was founded in 1868 Black and White leaders of the American Missionary Association after the Civil War to provide education to freedmen. The school later became Hampton University and offers 90 programs, including 50 bachelor degree programs, 25 master's degree programs and nine doctoral programs. The campus was founded on the grounds of a former plantation in Elizabeth City County, located on the Hampton River. Booker T. Washington was among the school's first alumni. Offering an assemblage of 19 printed postcards featuring the Hampton Institute campus including Memorial Church, Teachers' Club House, King's Chapel, Hospital for Boys, Ogden Hall, an aerial view of the campus, and one featuring Hartshorn Hall at Virginia Union University in Richmond. Twelve of the postcards have been used by a Helen Brown with information about a debate and a play. Light toning, but overall excellent and a fine collection representing the important buildings of the school. Everything we sell is guaranteed authentic forever to the original buyer.
