Softcover. Condición: Near Fine. Late 19th or early 20th century copy of a portrait from a late 18th century miniature (illustrated on p. 191 of *Fairfax Count in Virginia* by Nan Netherton, et al., the original is in the Smithsonian American Art Museum). Gray watercolor wash drawing highlighted in white on beige artists' board. Image size about 4" x 3" on 8" x 6" board. Captioned on verso. Slight age-toning, near fine. Love was a prominent citizen born in Charles County, Maryland, grew up at Salisbury Plantation in Loudoun County, Virginia. He served as Sheriff of Loudon, and later was involved in the construction of The Little River Turnpike. The original image was painted by Robert Field in 1800, the year of Love's death. Artist of this copy is unknown, replicating Field's initials and the date ("R.F. 1800"). A very nicely executed image.
