Published on January 11, 1873, depicting Robert Wigram Crawford (18 April 1813 - 30 July 1889), a British East India merchant, Governor of the Bank of England, and a Liberal Party politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1857 to 1874.Vanity Fair was a British magazine known for its social, political, and literary content. It gained fame particularly for its caricatures of prominent figures of the time. These caricatures, drawn by renowned artists, captured the essence of their subjects with a mix of humor, satire, and artistry.

Photograph. Condición: Very Good. Portrait photograph [14.5 cm x 20 cm] on a C. R. Savage mount [17.5 cm x 25 cm]. Subjects unknown. Written in pen, below the image: "Ho, for the Salt Lake! Aug. 8th 1894." A striking portrait image from the renowned Mormon pioneer photographer, Charles Roscoe Savage, who is best known for his images of the linking of the transcontinental railroad at Promontory Point, Utah. Savage was a prolific photographer of the American West in general, and of Utah and the Mormon experience in particular. He thoroughly documented the early settlement and development of Salt Lake City, including the long and arduous construction of the Mormon Temple over several decades. He also photographed many Indigenous North Americans, and is credited for taking the first photographs of what would later become Zion National Park.

37 x 25 cm. Original full colour lithograph by Hans Thoma. Excellent condition. Published in the 'Jahresmappe' of the Gesellschaft für Vervielfältigende Kunst in Vienna for 1898. Hans Thoma was born on 2 October 1839 in Bernau in the Black Forest, Germany. He was the son of a miller and was trained in the basics of painting by a painter of clock faces. He entered the Karlsruhe academy in 1859, where he studied under Johann Wilhelm Schirmer and Ludwig des Coudres the latter of which had a major influence on his career. He subsequently studied and worked, with but indifferent success, in Düsseldorf, Paris, Italy, Munich and Frankfurt, until his reputation became firmly established as the result of an exhibition of some thirty of his paintings in Munich. He died in Karlsruhe in 1924 at the age of 85.
